.: FAQs
Q: When should I consider cosmetic dentistry?
A: When you feel that you need to improve the appearance of your smile. Dental cosmetics will change your entire appearance. If you are unhappy about the color or shape of your teeth; want to tighten teeth gaps; or if you simply would like to cover up imperfections, cosmetic dentistry is a good solution.
Q: Who would be a good candidate for cosmetic dentistry?
A: People who are not satisfied with their current smile. Their smiles may have the appearance of stains from coffee, or teeth that may be crooked or gapped. These individuals are ideal candidates who often achieve immediate results.
Q: Will I experience any pain?
A:We use advanced technology such as micro-air abrasion and computerized injection systems to minimize sensitivity and discomfort during all cosmetic procedures.
Tooth loss can be caused by many different factors, including decay, injury, periodontal disease, extraction, and congenital disease. Missing teeth can not only cause gaps in an otherwise attractive smile, but can also create difficulties with eating and speaking normally, and lead to movement of remaining teeth. Fortunately, patients whose smiles have been affected by missing teeth can obtain state-of-the-art tooth replacement treatment at Park Dental Care of Astoria with implant dentistry. Our New York City, Queens, and Astoria-area patients can have dental implants placed at our office, because unlike many practices, we have an oral surgeon on our staff. Other practices often send the patient to an outside oral surgeon to place the actual implant.

While dental bridges and dentures can restore chewing ability along with the appearance of a gap-free smile, only dental implants convey the additional benefit of helping to halt loss of bone material. When teeth are lost, the bones that formerly supported those teeth can begin to atrophy and weaken over time. If left unchecked, this process, called resorption, can cause the jawbone to become unstable and lead to further tooth loss.
Implant dentistry, as practiced at our New York City, Queens, and Astoria-area, can help. Dental implants can be used to replace one or many missing teeth and act as anchor points for custom-fabricated crowns, bridges, and long-term dentures. Implants not only restore chewing function and allow us to create beautiful smiles, but also help prevent bone loss and stimulate new bone growth around the implant site. Replacement teeth anchored to dental implants look and feel completely natural, and prevent shifting of natural teeth.

Dental implant placement is usually accomplished in two visits. During the first visit, the implant is placed in the jawbone after a local anesthetic is administered by our on-staff oral surgeon; we also offer nervous patients sleep sedation options to help them relax. The gums, mouth tissue, and bone are then allowed to heal for a period usually lasting four to six months as the titanium implant naturally osseointegrates with the surrounding bone material, forming a stable anchor point. Once the implant is firmly anchored and the surrounding area is completely healed, the patient returns to our offices where the long-term crown, denture, or bridge will be fastened to the implant to create a durable, attractive, and fully functional restoration.
